We at SAEINDIA the strategic alliance partner of SAE International with 50000+ members are at the forefront in bringing several events modelled on International student competitions.
The Supra event, inspired by the Formula SAE known worldwide, is a National Level Engineering Student Competition where Teams from Engineering Colleges pan India participate. The students not only design the race car, but also build them as per the exact design, safety and performance standards accepted for similar competition. This is a great platform for aspiring Entrepreneurs, Technocrats, Innovators and Leaders in bringing out the real talent for the Indian Automotive Industry.
Specifications of the Vehicle Design and Engine are standardized, so that knowledge, creativity and imagination of students are fully challenged. The cars compete on all the aspects of design, build quality and performance on the race track. During the Main Event, Teams go through Several levels of Testing such as:
The SUPRA SAEINDIA 2017concluded with the valedictory ceremony. The valedictory session was attended by Chief guest, Mr C V Raman, Executive Director, Engineering, MSIL, Dr R K Malhotra, President, SAEINDIA, Mr Deepak Sawkar, Convener SUPRA2017 &Sr. VP Engineering, MSIL, Mr I V Rao, Executive Advisor MSIL, Mr. N S Rao, GM R&D Maruti Suzuki, Mr. Vinay Mundada, a veteran from Automotive R & D and Prof. Dr. Sudhir Gupte, Head Automobile Engineering at ADIT, provided an immense support.
SAEINDIA, the Indian chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers has been organizing the event for its sixth consecutive year, which sees students from engineering colleges across the country battle it out against each other in their quest to apply their technical knowledge on the ground by conceptualizing and developing a formula racing car. Guided by a standard rule book, the Formula Supra requires teams to build a single-seat race vehicle, using an engine having a maximum capacity of 610cc.
3,000 engineering students from 112 teams. Maruti Suzuki India was the title sponsor of Supra India 2017 for the consecutive sixth year. Other sponsors to the event includes AVL, Altair, Ansys, Bharat Seats, Castrol, Dassault Systems, Horiba, Mathworks, MRF, Siemens, BPCL, Continental, Weisstechnik, Wheels India Ltd, Adams and ATS. The event was judged by a panel comprising 100 eminent experts from the automotive industry and Motorsports Fraternity including three international experts from Germany.
With numerous other guidelines over the construction, dynamics and safety of the vehicle, students attempt their hands at designing the car by utilizing various computer aided tools like CATIA, Unigraphics, ANSYS, etc. It held over six days, from June 26th, 2017 to July 1st, 2017drew a record number of participants this year, with over 3000 (recheck & update the numbers) engineering students from125 teams participating. However, of these teams, 52 qualified for the technical round and 32 made it to the final round.
26th June, 2017 throughout had the registration of Participants, Faculty Advisors, Volunteers and Judges. Merchandise along with different essential requirements were distributed among all concerned.
27th June, 2017 witnessed the start of Technical Inspection Round which includes inspections at different levels such as technical inspection from the rule book, noise test, tilt table test, driver egress test and this all followed by brake test. The teams which complete all these rounds of technical inspection are allowed to run their vehicle for the final endurance.
28th June, 2017was followed by the different technical rounds along with the different static events going around.
29th June, 2017started with the dynamic events. The teams who completed their technical rounds of inspection were allowed for the different dynamic events. Static Events also went on simultaneously. The teams appeared for the respective inspections as per the schedule allotted to them for the static rounds.
